This is in today's Daily Mail: The identity of Jack the Ripper has (finally) been revealed using DNA evidence.

This from the article: "DNA evidence on a shawl found at Ripper murder scene nails killer. By testing descendants of victim and suspect, identifications were made. Jack the Ripper was identified as Polish-born Aaron Kosminski, who was a suspect when the Ripper murders took place in 1888."

We will of course have to wait a bit to see if other DNA experts corroborate the findings – but as of now, this really looks promising. Strong DNA evidence trumps all theory and speculation.

I will really keep an eye on how this unfolds.

PS. Tying back to the BoA archives, Gian Quasar mentioned Kosminsky in the interview about his book Scarlet Autumn (BoA Audio episode 815). If I remember correctly, he wasn't sold on this particular theory but mostly because Kosminsky didn't fit his (i.e. Quasar's) own profile of the murderer. DS.

I read Quasar's book. It was definitely interesting and he did a pretty good job of shooting down most of the usual suspects. It seemed pretty well researched and didn't seem like he was cherry-picking evidence to support his theory. Ultimately, unless someone builds a working time machine, I don't think we'll ever know who was right, if anyone.

Turns out this DNA evidence isn't any good after all. The guy doing the analysis made some pretty serious errors.
