The United States of Esoterica

I caught an episode of a BBC program "Supernatural Science" It was about the search for Atlantis.

They profiled an expedition to find an inland waterway from Ecuador leading to the Atlantic Ocean. Talked about Thor Heyerdahl and considered the idea that these ancient South Americans sailed EAST. Tossed around the idea that the Central American pyramids were built by the same people as in Egypt.
Some ideas bandied about- right up our alley: that there were millions of people living in pre-Columbian South America. Also claimed that the Amazon basin is full of human engineered waterways/canals, rather than an untouched river basin.
Anybody heard these theories before?

I think by now I've heard Atlantis being just about everywhere. I still love the topic and think it was probably based on a real civilization.

Did you see this recently? Was it BBC, or BBC America? I'd like to catch it if it repeats.

The show was produced by the BBC in 1999-2001 and now it's being syndicated in the US on PBS stations.
It's on at 10 tonight on WETA, the DC public station. The episode guide says it covers things like spontaneous combustion, bleeding statues- all that estoteric stuff we're interested in.
