Mustaine. Hammett plays for that socialist band with that really bad, short, angry drummer.

Hammett. Maybe not in the technical aspect but purely for his compositions. I like that bluesy style.

Mustaine is good but there's just a little too much "look at how fast I can play" going on.

Although, I saw Metallica back in October and Kirk sounded terrible live.

Have to go with Mustaine as an overall musician. As a guitar player only, probably a toss up. But if you think Hammett has the talent to drive a band - you've gotten into the good stuff.

i can't stand mustaine. he's a punk who lost his job because he had an bad attitude intensified by an alcohol problem. i'm glad he got the boot. metallica is a much better band without him.

Which Dave Mustaine? Before or after his come-to-Jeebus revelation?

Actually, the current Mustine is pretty badass. Dave Ellefson is back in the band...and I guess Megadeth is still alive(though Dave said "The System has Failed" was the last Megadath cd. Nonetheless, I have boots of Dave with Metallica and by far he was the better lead guitarist...the reason he got booted was cos Jaymz didn't want to share publishing (Mustaine wrote all of Kill em All, as well as half of Ride the Lightening) For someones who was a severe drug addict to tthe point where the band had to boot him, (a rock band mind you) I think it was more over royalties. After all, youve seen how Lars made him look in "Some Kind of Monster"

I think you're spot on here.

As far as who is better, I'll go with Mustaine in terms of technical ability and Hammett as a composer.

Hammett was also one of Joe Satriani's students, along with Tom Morello and Larry LaLonde. So I'll also give him his props for hooking up with an outstanding guitar teacher.

i don't want to make enemies here but i can't believe you guys like and support mustaine. his attitude is anything but likable. he's like the david lee roth of metal. his self-righteous personality really needs adjusted and i'd like to be the one to do it. mustaine is an ass. also, he was tossed out of the band because he was such a drunken asshole.

I'm not saying I wanna hang out with Mustaine or have him over for tea. But he is a very, very skilled guitarist, especially if you score him on purely technical merit.

I have to admit, though, I still have a soft spot for Diamond Dave.

i never once said he was a terrible guitarist. in fact, i admit he's very good. i just don't like him as a person. the same with david lee roth. he has a great voice but he's an ass. that's all i'm saying.

So you're saying Van Hagar was better without Diamond DAve? I beg to differ.

Mustaine is so badass that he brought Marty Friedman into the band who is easily a better guitar player than Dave...kind of tells the lie about his so-called ego...Dave could already play the shit but he brought in a better guitar player....and Friedman blows the shit out of Hammet any day.

And "Rust in Peace" is a masterpiece no matter the genre.

Mustaine is the man. He aligns himself with some of the best lead guitarist on this planet. Chris Broderick is no exception.

Mustaine for President!
