On the day it is alleged the Bronx Bombers work out the deal for Burnett, Wakefield retires from the RedSux. The latter actually makes me sad. I also like to see a guy go 20 years. And if he could have eclipsed Rogeroids win mark with the club that would have been even sweeter.

Agreed. A sad day for me. Wake was my personal favorite Sox player. Not afraid to admit I got pretty choked up today watching the coverage and press conference.

Tim Wakefield was everything you could ask for from a professional athelete and I wish him nothing but the very best in his retirement. I wish he could have broken the Red Sox all-time wins record, but he left us with a great lesson about having dignity despite falling short of an ultimate goal.
