Rumour has it that third baseman Adrian Beltre has agreed to a one year deal w. the Red Sox for 9 million.

I think I like this move. It's an improvement over Lowell, that's for sure.

What were his 2009 stats :?:

Not particularly good stats last season ...

BA: .265
OBP: .304
HR: 8 ... had averaged 25 HRs per season from '05 to '08, so I think this was an anomaly.

Here's his complete stats:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3878

He's also got 2 gold gloves.

Andre Dawson elected to baseball HoF.

Bert Blyleven fell 5 votes shy ... Roberto Alomar fell 8 votes shy.

Both should probably get in next year.

and there were five blank ballots, which is stupid for blyleven.

the baseball hall of fame is for elitist assholes.

trammell finally got over 20% in voting.
morris finally got over 50%. if you were one of the best players in your era, you should be in the hall of fame. period.

this bullshit of comparing stats of guys from 80 years ago to judge whether someone is worthy or not is bullshit.

it took dawson nine years to get in. he's either worthy -- he is -- or he's not.

another reason why baseball is fucked up.

Agreed. Those who submitted blank ballots should have their voting priviledges revoked.

Back to comtemporary baseball news ...

Cuban pitching phenom Aroldis Chapman is expected to decide on which team he will sign with soon.

Oh yeah, i forgot about Chapman. Well after the Tigers gutted their team, they have no hope. He might as well sign with the Evil Empire.

Rumour has it that the Yankees are out of the Chapman sweepstakes. Not sure if that is his decision or their's. That said, I'll believe it when I see it, lol.

Red Sox are still in the running and made a pretty strong offer, so we'll see what happens.

I wouldn't be too down on the Tigers, RSS. The AL Central is still a crap shoot. I haven't seen much improvement from any of those teams this off-season.

I looked up Chapman and it seems that alot of teams see him as only a reliever ! That Yankees are being very reserved this off-season because next year will be a huge free-agent class and they will dip into it very heavily.......look out Yankees haters :!:

I'm still reeling from the Cards signing Holiday for what they did. They NEVER spend that kind of money. I guess they were being honest with Pujols when they said they would do their best to field a team that can win. According to him, that's more important than the amount of a contract for him. (Can you imagine what baseball would be like if more players were that way)

Stunner ... Aroldis Chapman (Cuban pitcher who defected) signs with the Reds. I guess no one explained to him that they are a different team from the "Red Sox." Anyway, congrats to Cinncinnatti.

Texas Rangers sign Vlad Guerrero to DH.

Also, Dice K admits to Japanese newspaper (not the Red Sox) that he had a groin injury at the very beginning of last season and that is why he was so terrible. Ugh, this guy pisses me off.

My 2010 prediction: this guy is going to have his 100 mph fastball rocked AGAIN AND AGAIN by MLB batters. Then again, even if his numbers are sensational, no one will notice until the All-Star break (if he's lucky). They should just send the NL central teams back to their original divisions and let the Cubs and Cards play for a playoff spot at the start of the season.
