Since the NFL playoff system is convoluted and confuses me, we are going to keep it simple.

Quote:
AFC Championship ... x v. x
NFC Championhsip ... x v. x

Super Bowl ... x v. x ... x wins

7 total possible points.

Winner gets a shout-out @ the beginning of an episode of BoA:Audio in Feb. 2010.

My picks can be found below.

Deadline to enter is the end of the day on Sunday (9.13).

EAGLES?! You're crazy. DALLAS is the new (and old) DREAM. . . . Until Tom Brady (and Moss) crushes Romo under his heel, anyway. . . .

Dallas won't make it past the first round, if they even make it to the playoffs. Roy Williams is their number 1 receiver and Romo chokes down the stretch every single year. And let's not forget they're under the leadership of Wade "The Human Ghost" Phillips. It's a recipe for "Meh". They're a middling team in every phase of the game. I actually think they may have a losing record this year and may come in third in the NFC East behind Philadelphia and the Giants. Absurd Stadium or not, I don't think they're a particularly impressive team.

Anyway....I really don't know who to pick. I think some of the traditional AFC powerhouses might falter this season (Pittsburgh was not impressive at all last night. They have zero running game, their O-Line looked terrible, and Roethlisberger pump fakes on EVERY SINGLE PASS ATTEMPT which is going to make reading him much easier late on. And the Pats are aging as a team, have lost several key players from their golden era, and have Brady returning from an injury. Yeah, I know it's the Pats and not to ever count them out, but I think this is the season where they start to drag a little.)

NFC....always wide open. I mean, they sent The Cardinals to the Superbowl last year.

So that said (and I'll readily admit this is as blind a stab as there is):

AFC: Colts and Chargers. Colts Win.

NFC: Saints and Packers. Saints win.

SB: Colts vs Saints. Colts win (even in my fantasies the Saints fall flat...)

Yeah, that NFC pick is a total homer pick, but I do feel that either Atlanta or New Orleans will face either Green Bay or Chicago. New Orleans' offense is a fine tuned machine at this point, and the defensive looks somewhat better. Several games last season were lost by less than a touchdown because of our shitty D, so I think we may be in 2006 form again. I've been a fan long enough to know that I'm probably totally wrong, though.

I think Philadelphia is a popular choice that is getting a lot of hype, but will fall flat. Vick will be a distraction, McNabb will be paranoid, and they're really going to miss Jim Johnson running their defense.

Everything there is true. The one thing I will say is that when it's time to go for the win the offense shows up. The defense is awesome and keeps them in the game. I'll take a QB like Roethlisberger who finds a way to win over a Peyton Manning any day.

Dang, the Colts and the Chargers are gonna make NFL-life interesting.

Dallas- Owner Jerry Jones is too crafty not to be up to something.... Besides, I go with Dallas every year; they're the team that affects my state's economy most. . . .

- They have the best offense in the NFL, and it looks like it's only gotten better since last season (Mike Bell put up almost 150 yards yesterday. We had NO running game last season.).

- The defense (which was the direct cause of all lost games last season, many of which were by less than a touchdown) looks considerably improved. Don't let the score of yesterday's game fool you, one of Detroit's touchdowns was special teams, one was a fumble recovery, and one was basically handed to them by a series of insane calls (including a phantom forearm strike that didn't actually happen) that I'm still trying to wrap my head around.

This team is as good (or better) than the 2006 team that went to the NFC Championship game. They have a very real shot of getting there again, especially with the NFC seemingly lacking any sort of dominant power right now.

Woof, Chargers are looking bad. I might have made a bad prediction on that one.
