In what must be the strangest video game announcement in recent memory, it has been revealed that the next Mortal Kombat game is going to be a radical departure from the series. Which is to say, it's crossing over with the DC Universe.

The site is up, but there isn't really anything on it right now. Just some teaser art of Batman and Sub-Zero staring each other down with a Lin Kuei compound and Gotham City in the background:

I haven't cared about Mortal Kombat in years, but if this means I get to beat Shao Kahn silly with Darkseid, I'll play it.

I played MK from its inception, through 2 and 3, ultra, and the recent release on the Wii with like 60 characters. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I too was a Kombat Kid in the 90's. Shit, I even went to see the cheesy live action Mortal Kombat play tour.

Odd choice for MK, but I'm really looking forward to MK v DC.

I love how on the forums at Worldscollide.com, the MK fans are saying how this is destroying the franchise, as if the second movie didn't do that already.

I haven't played a MK game since Ultimate 3, so for me the inclusion of DC characters means I'll be buying this, meaning one more sale they didn't have with the last half dozen games.

My little brother (that is 16 years younger than me) made me look so bad when I played against him in MK.
He would rip my spine out and take a shit on it...

Now here in the future - My wife and I can't wait to play mariocart on the Wii with my 4 year old while we watch our garden grow.

That's the thing.l They say it's going to destroy the franchise, but I'm willing to bet this will easily be the best selling Mortal Kombat title in years.

Like I said, I haven't cared about Mortal Kombat in years, but I'll pick this up.

I don't get it. Marvel Vs Capcom didn't destroy Capcom did it? So why is this a franchise killer?
