don't understand the interest of twitter. seems like it's just facebook, with less bells and whistles.

Im not putting anyone down using it, but I dont see the value in twitter either.

Youtube... I watch but I aint posting, dont follow anyone.

Myspace... left in the dust by Facebook.

Facebook... yawn.

Twitter... I dont think people need to know what Im doing every waking second, and I sure dont want to know what theyre doing.

I sound old, but I actually remember the days when we went away for the weekend and didnt hear form anyone until Sunday night when we got back. All this communication seems to mean everyone is just talking at the same time. Is anyone ever alone with their thoughts for more than ten minutes at a time any more?

Of course not. That would encourage introspection and examination of the world at large. And we can't be having the populace doing that, now can we?

Anyway...I think there's more of a fad element with Twitter than the other Social Networking sites. I recently read that Twitter only has a 40% retention rate (meaning that a month after signing up, only 40% of users still use the service. That's pretty low for something that gets that much hype.), where as Facebook has a retention rate of over 70%.

I see why. I got on the Twitter bandwagon pretty early, but now I hardly ever use it. Once the novelty wears off, there's really nothing left to do. People are starting to realize that reading about other people's days isn't all that thrilling, and even the celebrity angle seems to be waning. I was looking at Compete, and from April to May Twitter's growth was basically flat for the first time in a while. Such a flatline after months of upward growth would seem to indicate that things may be slowing down.

I don't get Twitter either. Why would people want to know what I'm doing? And why doesn't anyone ever post that they are posting on twitter? ;)

MySpace is great if you are a musician or band. Facebook sucks for that.

My MySpace music page is:

Hey, Tim, hear any music you like? :D

I have a FaceBook page too, and have reconnected with a bunch of old friends, so that's a good thing.
